Maximising Space by Hiring a Marquee
There are many good reasons for considering hiring a marquee, one obvious reason is that you have found the ideal venue but they just don’t have the seating capacity to cope with the number of guests you would like to invite.
Most venues with grounds are happy to accommodate a marquee, with their permission it may even be possible to attach a marquee to the indoor function room so guests don’t have to step outside. A marquee can be useful if you are having extra guests in the evening and a band or DJ for entertainment that way everything can be set up for the evening separately from the main house where you may want to have your wedding breakfast - some grander country houses would certainly prefer this arrangement as there is less chance of any damage occurring in the evening due to over exuberant guests or young children!

If you have a friend or relation with a large garden you may even decide that a marquee on the lawn would make the perfect reception venue. In this case it would be wise to hire in extra toilets for guests as your friend or relations generosity might not stretch to having over a hundred people wandering through their house to the bathroom!
Most marquee companies can also supply flooring, lighting, heating and electric. Different linings can be used to add colour or on the ceiling to create a starlit sky effect, for example. If you are having a marquee you will also have to hire in table and chairs, tableware etc, most marquee companies can advise you on this. Other considerations will be hiring the services of a caterer, or you may prefer something informal like a hog roast. You will also need a bar hire service – although some catering companies can do both.
There are many different types of marquee to choose from. The standard type of marquee is the clearspan frame marquee which can range from 3-12 meters in width. This type of marquee can be erected on a hard surface as well as grass. Traditional Marquees are more suited to uneven ground and have the more traditionally styled high pitched roof. If you are looking for something to keep the potential rain off your guests as they mill about the gardens a party marquee is ideal, the marquee’s modular design allows for more than one to be joined together and they come with detachable walls. For something really original how about an Indian or Bedouin tent or Giant Hat Kata Tent – these are particularly suited to an eco-friendly themed wedding?

When hiring a marquee consider the practicalities and the look and feel you want to create. Get quotes from several companies and find what else is included in the price or potentially what savings could be made if the company has contact with relevance suppliers such as caterers, tableware suppliers etc. Certain venues regularly use the same suppliers – it is wise to trust their judgement as they will already have experience of the company.
