Description

Recently restored to its 15th century glory this “thatched cathedral” nestles in an idyllic valley just 8 miles from Exeter.

While the award winning Great Barn may be of 15th century origins the detail is most definitely 21st. Underfloor heating is concealed below the slate and elm floors and state of the art lighting and sound systems have been installed in the magnificent vaulted ceiling. Contemporary furniture complements the chic, clean interior.

With a seated reception capacity of 190 and an additional 70 in the attached Roundhouse, the joy of The Great Barn is its flexibility. Create your own unique day in this very special space.

Civil Cermonies and Partnerships
The Great Barn, known as the “thatched cathedral” is licensed for both marriages and civil partnerships. The sheer scale of the vast 45ft vaulted oak ceiling provides a spectacular backdrop for your most important of days, while its chic, clean interior is a blank canvass for you to create exactly the look you want.

Outside, the medieval courtyard and beautiful walled gardens are perfect for drinks and photographs. Surrounded by the Place Barton private estate, exclusivity and privacy are guaranteed.

The 16th Century Roundhouse adjoining the Barn is perfect for a bar, chill out or children´s room. If you need somewhere to stay on your wedding night, or would like a base for your family and friends during the day, we have the beautifully refurbished Courtyard Cottage.

Food and Drink
Good food and drink is an essential part of all weddings. With this in mind we have sourced only the top caterers in the area who all provide fantastic service and delicious food tailored to suit your taste and budget. Working from our professional catering kitchen adjacent to the main building, they will look after your drinks reception, wedding feast and evening buffet.

You are welcome to bring all your own wines for your drinks reception and wedding feast – we do not charge corkage. If it is delivered a day or two in advance we will ensure it is properly chilled.

For the latter end of the day, for an hourly fee, we can provide a licensed pay-bar if required or simply serve the drinks you have provided.

Courtyard Cottage
Just a few feet from the Barn, the beautifully refurbished cottage has one double with en suite bathroom, plus 2 single rooms and a shower room.

A bright sitting room with log fire and French windows opens onto the pretty walled garden with terrace.

Recently renovated to a very high standard by the same team who restored the Barn, all that you need is there – dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, TV/DVD, iron/ironing board. Linen and towels supplied.

Perfect for the bridal party to get ready in, or for family, friends or the Bride and Groom to stay in over night. Also jolly useful for children and oldies if they want to temporarily escape during the wedding day.
